I Served on the Willie R. for the better part of five years. She was the most outstanding of the many duty stations that I served on in my Naval career. The Willie R had the most uniformly outstanding skippers that I had ever served under. One of these skippers was a Mustang himself CDR Leo Waring (deceased). The Willie R. was known throughout the 2nd and 6th fleets for her Roadrunner flag and "beep, beep" when pulling away from underway evolutions. She never missed a commitment.
